Case study
Floating Floor Installation for Deadlift Arena
client: Cult Gym, Ghatkopar | Application: Deadlift / Heavy Lifting Zone
Overview
Cult Gym, one of India’s premier fitness chains, faced a critical operational challenge the intense impact and sound generated during heavy deadlifts and Olympic lifts in their dedicated lifting arena were causing significant structural vibrations and noise disturbance across the facility. SILARIS was engaged to deliver a high-performance floating floor system engineered specifically for heavyimpact sports environments.
The Challenge
The deadlift arena at Cult Gym was generating noise levels between 70–80 dB during peak training hours comparable to the sound level inside a busy restaurant or a running vacuum cleaner experienced in adjacent zones of the facility. Beyond the auditory discomfort, the floor was transmitting significant vibration energy into the building structure, raising concerns about long-ter structural integrity and member experience.
Key pain points identified
- Excessive noise (70–80 dB) disrupting other training zones and common areas
- High floor vibration during heavy barbell drops and compound lifts
- Structural stress transmission to the building slab
- Member discomfort and complaints from adjacent workout areas
The SILARIS Solution
SILARIS designed and installed a purpose-built Floating Floor System for the Deadlift Arena a multi-layer acoustic isolation assembly engineered to absorb, decouple, and dissipate impact energy before it reaches the structural slab.
The system was engineered as a multi-layer assembly, with each component selected for a specific performance role:
• Heavy-Duty Springs (7mm wire) — structural vibration isolators that absorb and decouple high-impact energy from barbell drops
• Rockwool Insulation — high-density mineral wool layer for superior airborne and impact noise isolation
• HDHMR Board— High Density High Moisture Resistant structural platform for rigidity, load distribution, and long-term durability
• Seamless perimeter isolation to eliminate flanking sound transmission
Heavy-Duty Springs
7mm wire guage
- Engineered from 7mm steel wire, these springs are rated for repeated high-mass impacts.
- Springs physically decouple the floor from the slab, preventing vibration from travelling into the building structure directly.
Rockwool Insulation
Noise & acoustic isolation
- Rockwool’s dense mineral fibre matrix traps and dissipates sound energy, providing exceptional noise reduction for both airborne sound and structure-borne imapct.
- A critical layer in achieving the 45-50 dB results.
HDHMR Plywood
Structural platform layer
- Stronger and Denser than regular MDF and Plywood board
- Better screw holding strength
- Termite and Bore resistant
- Smooth surface for Laminates and paints
Observed Results
Following installation, primary observation trials were conducted with live deadlift sessions under standard training loads. Results were consistently satisfactory across all measurement parameters. Videos of the trials were recorded to document the before-and-after performance.

Post-Installation Feedback
Sound meter readings confirmed a drop from 70–80 dB to 45–50 dB — a reduction of 25–30 dB, representing a dramatic improvement in acoustic comfort. 45–50 dB corresponds to a quiet office environment, an extraordinary outcome for a high-intensity lifting zone.
Before vs. After — At a Glance
| Parameter | Before (Standard Floor) | After (SILARIS Float) |
|---|---|---|
| Sound Level | 70–80 dB | 45–50 dB |
| Floor Vibration | Significant | Negligible |
| Structural Stress | High | Greatly Reduced |
| Disruption to Adjacent Areas | Frequent | Eliminated |
| Member Complaints | Regular | None Post-Install |
Why This Matters
A 25–30 dB reduction is not just a number — it is the difference between a disruptive training environment and a world-class facility. In practical terms:
• Members in adjacent zones can train, focus, and converse without disturbance
• The gym can run heavy lifting sessions without noise complaints from within or outside the facility
• Structural longevity is significantly improved — less vibration means less long-term wear on the building
• Premium member experience is preserved across the entire floor plate
